Man walks 25 miles to get help after pregnant woman becomes trapped in floodwaters

A man walked 25 miles to get help after his car, with a heavily pregnant woman inside, got stranded by floods in a remote part of Australia.

The man managed to flag down a police vehicle after trekking across an area of the Northern Territory hit by heavy rains.

Police said the woman, who is 38 weeks pregnant, was eventually flown by helicopter from the remote community of Timber Creek.
She was among a party of people, including children, who were travelling in the vehicle became isolated by floodwaters about 370 miles south of Darwin.

“He had left the party to find help after their car had become bogged and was able to flag down a police vehicle on the Victoria Highway,” Superintendent Stephen Heyworth said.

“Although the party had plenty of water, food was going to be an issue.”
